SPH Friends
Relieving hardship
Is a dedicated charity (number 271924) dedicated to the relief of poverty and hardship experienced by the homeless and those with housing need.
'Housing is not enough' said founder of SPH Housing Basil Jellicoe in the 1920s - and it is still the case today. We want to provide homes AND enrich the lives of tenants and families, inspire a sense of community and help build a better future.

Grants programme
Many who benefit from our grants come from hostels and bed & breakfast accommodation and have no possessions for building a home. Others are long-term residents who have lives blighted by poverty and cannot afford basic household items. Last year we were able to provide assistance to 100 families in need.
Student bursary
We also run a student bursary scheme, helping tenants and their household gain essential skills and training, opening up employment opportunities and enabling them to live more independent lives. We assist with student fees, books, equipment and language courses.
Your generosity needed
One of our fundraising events is an annual golf event. In the last two years we have raised £18,000 through the help of our partners and contractors who supported the event - and had good fun in the process (see photograph).
How your generosity has helped
Edward is a pensioner and widower, suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and severe depression. Like many older people, he lives on a very limited income.
We helped Edward buy warmer blankets for the winter and a washing machine, as he could no longer travel the three miles to the nearest laundrette.
Danielle is a single mother with three children. She works full time but her limited income did not stretch to buying a much-needed cooker. We helped buy the cooker to ensure the children got at least one hot meal a day.
John is living with multiple sclerosis. He is also the sole carer of his two children. John has little feeling in his legs, walking is difficult and shopping trips are very challenging. His family desperately needed a fridge-freezer so he could buy in bulk and reduce his shopping trips - which SPH Friends managed to do.
